It’s the rapper and YouTuber’s highest-charting single as a lead artist, and David’s highest since 2005’s “All The Way”.
Over on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, Springsteen is the boss once more as Letter to You (Columbia) blasts to the top, for the rock legend’s 12th leader.
Letter to You was an express delivery, outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined and bagging 51,800 chart sales, with 95% made up of physical and download sales.
It trails onlyLady Gaga’s Chromatica (Interscope) for the biggest opening week overall for an album this year, debuting at No. 1 in June with 53,000 chart sales.
Springsteen becomes the first credited solo artist to have a No. 1 album in five consecutive decades, topping the charts in the ‘80s, ‘90s, ‘00s, ‘10s and ‘20s.
According to the OCC, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, David Gilmour and Paul Weller have also managed the feat, but only when including their work in groups alongside their solo material.
Also, Springsteen is now tied with Madonna on 12 chart-topping albums. Only Robbie Williams and Elvis Presley have had more solo No. 1 albums in the U.K., with 13 each.
Meanwhile, virtual band Gorillaz snag a sixth Top 5 album with Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez (Parlophone), new at No. 2.
Southend rock outfit Nothing But Thieves have the week’s streamed new release with their third studio album Moral Panic (RCA), new at No. 3; Pop Smoke’s posthumous release Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon (Republic Records) dips 2-4, while Blossoms have a second Top 5 album this year as their lockdown covers effort In Isolation (EMI) opens at No. 5.
Finally, veteran British electronic act Faithless return to the Official U.K. Albums Chart with All Blessed, their first album of new material in a decade. It’s new at No. 6.
